Retention Metrics

 Retention Metrics

The main objective of measuring retention metrics is to find the best approach to reduce the chance of additional hiring and onboarding costs while increasing employee loyalty and trust in the company.

  1. 1  Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS)

This metric measures employees’ satisfaction with their jobs as a way to gauge their willingness to promote the company to potential candidates. This can be done by distributing a survey to obtain a numerical score for employee satisfaction and dividing the score into three ranges, namely promoters, neutral, and detractors. The eNPS can be calculated by using the formula below:

(number of promotes – number of detractors)
    x 100

    (number of respondents)

The objective is to measure this metric regularly to monitor a company-wide problem and immediately address it through a well-established employee feedback system.

  2. 2  Career Path Ratio

The metric is utilized to keep track of the employees’ development in the organization. To calculate this metric, we need to track the number of promotions divided by the total role changes within the organization, both laterally and vertically.

    (total number of promotions)
(all role changes: promotions + lateral movement)

Analyzing the current career paths available in the company allows HR to make any necessary adjustments. There should be a balance between promotion and lateral movement.

  3. 3  Salary Change

This metric is measured to track how prominent the salaries across the organization change from time to time. HR professionals can compare different departments to see if there’s an inequality that would adversely impact employee retention.

        4 Employee Attrition Rate

This metric is calculated by dividing the average number of full-time employees that left the company per month by the average number of employees.

Identifying attrition rate helps detect if employees are well taken care of. High attrition rates may be indicative of workplace stress, burnout, or other negative work-related feelings, like inadequacy to fulfill the roles.
